HEAR THE PHOTOGRAPHS
They call it a "still" camera. But I reject that term when it comes to photographing musicians.
My camera is "active" - to capture the spirit, the passion and musicianship that is the stuff of great performances. In the Active Camera I am a camera setting, too. I'm zooming while pushing the camera forward, swaying with the music, letting the musical beats, drum fills or guitar riffs dictate each snap of the shutter. The camera assumes the role of a paint brush rather than a recorder. Color is liberally splashed across each frame, for color, like sound, emits frequencies. An impressionistic vision emerges. Through the Active Camera what inevitably emerges for each music group, within its own music genre, is a distinct visual identity that mirrors its sound identity. All images are created in the camera as single exposures. PAUL D. SOLOVAY [email protected] |
